Hi Yaki-friends!
Yakima summers are legendary for their "dry heat," which is code for: HOT in the sun. But find a slice of shade, and voila - heaven. Looking for some other ways too cool off? Try our favorite summer adult and kid beverages, as well as the one and only activity that most Yakimaniacs can agree is a crowd pleaser.
New around here? Welcome to the I Heart Yakima Love List, a curated list of goodies we crush on in the Yakima Valley. We're in your inbox every two weeks, and all opinions are 100% our own. No pay for play ever.
Lastly, Yakima365 is still cooking. We're grateful for the enthusiasm, so we're releasing a page earlier than the rest. As promised, IHY insiders get first peek of new content so head over here and use password #yakima365.
Jump in, cool off. It's summer in Yakima, and we couldn't be happier.

It's a little taste of Hawaii right here in Yakima. Located in the Chalet Mall courtyard right near the English Country Market and Wray’s, some say summer in Yakima officially starts once the adorable Ohana tiki shack opens. There’s pretty much always a line, because it’s nearly impossible for any kid or kid-at-heart to say no to shave ice – especially once the 90+ temps of July hit. Our favorite? Rainbow, of course! When the shade isn't enough, add a frosé (with a cab topper) to the mix. Second Street informed us on IG (thank you social media) that this is their new thing on their dog-friendly, shaded patio. We had to try. Sure enough, we were crushing pretty fast. It's not on the menu yet so just ask your nice server to hook you up. If you're tempted to order a second, we suggest heading over to AntoLin to try out their wine smoothie, mixed to taste. It's next-level frozen wine. Cheers! (PC: IHY)

Floating the Yakima River Canyon is a summer must. The Canyon is the safest stretch to float, and we think it's the prettiest, too. Make sure you have your put-in and take-out spots figured before you venture in (we love to put-in at Canyon River Ranch and take-out at the Roza Recreational Site). You can DIY, or hire someone like Red’s Fly Shop, Rill Adventures, or Yakima River Tubing to get you all geared up. So grab your life jacket (be safe, friends), float, cooler, and buddies, and summer is served. (PC: CWU Int'l/Instagram)

CUT, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: When LL needs to cool off at the peak of summer, she heads into the walk-in beer cooler at Suntides Market.
