A local business love note from I Heart Yakima
November 19, 2020

Central to IHY is our love for living and loving everything local. A core part of that love is dedicated to our locally-owned businesses. We promote them. We celebrate them. We cheers them every chance we get. A thriving local economy is the foundation to a healthy community.

The pandemic has revealed and highlighted how amazing and innovative Yakima entrepreneurs are, from launching online storefronts overnight to changing their business models to address community needs, and fully embracing Zoom as a meeting place.

While not under ideal conditions, we see YOU adapting and pivoting, business community. We see your drive-thrus and curbside pickups, we see your use of technology, we see you implementing protocols to keep our friends and families safe. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! We know this is not without sacrifice.

With the uptick in COVID-19 numbers, our businesses and community need to adjust again. We are all in this together.

What are we doing?
  • Getting take-out as much as our budgets allow (if you can pick up instead of using a service for delivery, the restaurants get to keep the money).
  • Bundling up (hey, it’s just like apres ski!) to have a socially distanced beer outside with friends.
  • Doing virtual workouts. (Shout out to trainer Marc Laush!)
  • Keeping our fridges and pantries stocked with local snacks and beverages and sending them to our friends and families as gifts. (Shout out to Basalt Roasters! They recently won a virtual decaf taste test we did with friends over Zoom.)
  • Getting our flu shots to make extra sure we don't end up in the hospital, taking up a much needed bed.
  • Wearing masks to stop the spread. Also, we're kinda intrigued by plastic face shields. (Um, we can drink from a straw and keep the droplets in check and we get to look like an astronaut? Sure?)
  • Continuing to shop local, especially during this holiday season. Goal: 100% holiday gifts purchased from the Yakima Valley. Can we do it? Can YOU do it?!

The list isn't comprehensive, so if there's something we should add or change, send us a note at info@iheartyakima.com! Reminder: make sure you call/be in touch with businesses to confirm their hours and protocols.

Many of our businesses are still able to be open, things just look different.
