This week, we highlight local #girlpower because tomorrow is International Day of the Girl (Fri 10/11). And if you have post Fresh Hop Fest blues, not to worry, the calendar has so.much.stuff for you to check out. This weekend is a little, um, FULL.
Speaking of the calendar, as of today, we are 24 days to the end of Daylight Savings (November 3rd), 83 days to 2020, and 18 days to October 28th which is the last day to register to vote for the November 5th elections. Mark your calendars! Time is flying by.

 We are so grateful for our friends at Collaboration Cafe who are the best YAKIMA365 cheerleaders. Not only do they have awesome coffee, they are leading the way with supporting local businesses and artists, and always thinking about how they can contribute to downtown and beyond. They were the first to embrace our community calendar. They are now the first to rep a Y365 window sticker, telling passerbyers to stop in because their business is a well-loved local business!
Be on the lookout! Our favorite businesses, orgs, and makers will be getting stickered -- making it easy for you to find them when you're cruising around town. We heart you, Yakima Valley! |

Famous people are famous for a reason, right? They have experiences that we don’t have. They’ve lived different lives that we could learn from. What wisdom would Caroline Kennedy give you? Or Geena Davis? Or Walter Cronkite? Well, thanks to Yakima Town Hall, you don’t have to leave town to see speakers of this caliber. For nearly 47 years, the all-women, all-volunteer board brings world-renowned personalities to Yakima each year – speakers that even big cities have a hard time getting ( Monica Lewinsky, for example, who is closing out the 2020 season). A season ticket is $85 (that’s to see ALL speakers), and Town Hall also gives over 150 students free seats to each show. Now that’s #girlpower.
IHY insiders: author and entrepreneur Alex Banayan speaks on October 23rd, and we’re giving away 20 tickets, two (2) per person. Just send us an email or DM telling us which speaker you’re most excited about this season, and you’re in!

Step inside the doors of La Casa Hogar, and you know it’s exactly as its name implies: a home. Initially envisioned for Latina women and children to find community and pursue education, today, La Casa offers families in Yakima the chance to change their lives. Whether it’s pre-school kids in the Early-Learning program, adults working toward Citizenship (more than 1,100 have become US citizens since 2014), or taking computer, English or pre-GED classes in the Adult Education program (over 280 took part in 2018), La Casa is making an enormous impact, connecting Yakima families and cultures in a supportive, warm environment. Not only is October Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer survivor, Austyn, submitted a Biz Beatz just in time for us to be inspired and remember.
