When you're not a baker

Eat.

We are seeing a lot of sourdough starter out there on the social media channels. Are you doing it? While you’re waiting for all to rise, we suggest doing some cooking.

Shawn Niles - aka the Fat Pastor - posted his clam chowder recipe for the internet to have and to hold. Also, his King Crab rolls. And more. Procure the ingredients for when your sourdough is ready. His recipes are posted on his FB + IG pages. Follow the pics! Tell him how it turns out.

Drink.

April would have been Spring Barrel Wine Tasting. Since that didn’t happen, we say curbside pickup and go virtual to celebrate our beautiful wine country.

Justin Neufeld of JB Neufeld wine has been geeking out during live, virtual tastings on Zoom. Connect with the winemaker himself, order some of their wine, and follow their IG account for details about their next virtual tasting.

Need more? Wine Yakima Valley has your back. They are curating a calendar of virtual tastings from local wineries here.

Celebrate.

Essencia Artisan Bakery celebrated their 17th anniversary in business this month + Collab Coffee turned ONE. Who’d we miss?

Stop by Essencia and pick up some bread if you’re not the breadmaking type. Or their AMAZING cinnamon rolls - wowza. And Collab Coffee is delivering coffee to medical and other offices on the frontlines. Order some coffee for them today. They also have other things for sale on their online store.

Stretch.

Local yoga studio, the Yoga Practice, is offering free yoga on their YouTube Channel. If you need a giggle, we recommend the Stretchy Legs episode.

The Yoga Collective of Yakima is also going live on the regular on their Facebook page. They are donation only.

And, Renú Hot Yoga is also offering live streams and have a special going on for 2 weeks of unlimited live stream classes for $20. If you’ve been curious about yoga, virtual is a great way to get a flavor!

Art+.

We are following Tommy over on the Yakima Valley Museum FB page. We’re also enjoying their Throwback Thursday series.

Engrained Wood Designs has some cool painting and building kits available for the old and young alike. We missed out on the DIY corn hole kit. Don’t let that be you. Give them a follow or a message.

McIlrath Family Farms

McIlrath Family Farms is crushing the local collaboration game. We especially dig how their 100% organic produce is used in other local businesses’ products. Our fave example: McIlrath’s asparagus are pickled by Nana Kate’s who also makes baked goods with McIlrath’s well-loved fruit. At their two locations right off the Greenway, they also stock adored valley brands like Jhars European SausageZagelow BeefaloImbrock’s honeyBuhrmaster Baking Co, and more. Truly, they are a one stop local love shop. And they deliver!

Adeline’s Peonies

Memorial Day weekend is coming up. If you’re looking for something special for your loved ones, we highly recommend a trip out to Adeline’s Peonies in Toppenish. We had the opportunity to visit the farm recently and fell in love with everything about it, from owners Jay and Pat McCarthy and their vision, to their tutorial on how they harvest thousands of our favorite flowers. Our friends at Rooted wrote a fantastic post on them if you’d like to dig deep into their history.
