Treaty Day

This year, Treaty Day, which commemorates the signing of the treaty that formed the Yakama Nation Tribe, is a bit extra. In March 2019, the Yakama Nation made national headlines when the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling* in favor of Yakama members’ rights – under the 1855 treaty - to travel public roads without being taxed while carrying goods to market. The Yakama people gave up 90% of their land - millions of acres - for this protection. We celebrate this win with you! (Photo Cred: Gordon King/Yakima Herald-Republic)

*Cougar Den Inc. entrusted local law firm Stokes Lawrence Velikanje Moore & Shore to represent them. Shout out to locals Brendan Monahan and Jr. Cuevas. Congrats to all.

Feature: Born to Run

We love it when people turn their passions into something new that lifts up our community.

Take Yakima natives and former high-school track rivals Erik Mickelson and Chris Waddle, for example. They dreamed of bringing an elite mile road race, with national class elite runners, to town. Over the last year, their dream has been made real, and their vision is clear: The Virginia Mason Memorial Downtown Yakima Mile.

*Please note, our partnership with the Yakima Mile is 99% love and 1% in-kind sponsorship.
