Emily and Lee Fergestrom – the duo behind Yakima Valley’s new Fortuity Cellars -- just won the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Rising Startup of the Year award for the Seattle district. Yep, they beat out ALL small businesses in our region, including any hot tech start-ups. These two (and winemaker Johnny Brose, pictured) are not only lovely, but also savvy. In an attempt to cook more – and healthier – meals at home, I’ve turned to blogs and cookbooks. My favorite is without a doubt Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat. It’s great writing, easy to follow, and FUN. The illustrations make it even more zippy and down-to-earth. It won the James Beard award, y’all. Let’s just say I’m no Dan Koommoo or Lindsay Park, but my nightly cooking has definitely improved with Samin’s help.
